After Wheat, Maize, Rice, Potato is the fourth largest food crop in the world. Without the discovery of Potato, the present day junk food would have been tasteless. It is used by almost all living human beings. Because of his mingling nature, Potato has got a prestigious position in whole vegetable fraternity around the world. Potato commonly known as "ALOO" in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh,Afghanistan is cooked in various dishes. There is a famous saying in Indo-Pak subcontinent, when you do not have anything to cook, better cook Potatoes. Boiled and Roast Potatoes are also very helpful for police to investigate criminals. A retired police man once told me that while dealing with stubborn criminals, they found boiled potatoes a remedy. He said and I quote " Just put one or two boiled potatoes on the naked back of criminal and he will reveal every thing". This method is centuries old and very effective in South Asian villages. Even it is a common proverb in Indo-Pak subcontinent, " If you tell a lie or hide something from me I will punish you with hot potatoes on your back.
